Chapter 4 of 8

How do different energies affect one another?

Generation is support and transformation; regulation is boundary and adjustment. Either can help or become imbalanced.

Reader outcomeGenerating is not always good because the giver spends energy. Regulating is not always conflict because an appropriate limit can create direction, quality and safety.

Scene 01

Five basic relationships

When two energies meet, they usually create one of five functions: similarity, support, output, management or pressure.

One relationship can produce several effects at once. Someone may support your growth while also raising expectations. Aurato shows the complete exchange instead of reducing it to a lucky or unlucky label.

Scene 02

Generation: energy transforms into the next function

  1. Wood generates Fire

Ideas, direction and growth become expression, enthusiasm and influence.

  2. Fire generates Earth

Enthusiasm and attention become execution, stability and results.

  3. Earth generates Metal

Experience and foundations become standards, judgment and quality.

  4. Metal generates Water

Structure and data become understanding, insight and possibility.

  5. Water generates Wood

Information and support become learning, direction and development.

Scene 03

Support also has a cost

Take Water generating Wood: Water can understand, nourish and support Wood’s growth. But if Wood keeps drawing while Water is already tired, support becomes one-way depletion.

  1. Who receives help?

    The Wood that is growing.

  2. Who is paying the cost?

The Water providing understanding and nourishment.

  3. Does the giver still have enough available?

That depends on whether Water is already depleted.

Support has a costRen Water supports Jia Wood's growth while the source reservoir loses capacity.

The receiver grows while the provider spends capacity

Scene 04

Regulation: one energy sets limits for another

  1. Wood regulates Earth

The pull between change and stability.

  2. Earth regulates Water

The pull between boundaries and freedom.

  3. Water regulates Fire

The pull between calm and immediate expression.

  4. Fire regulates Metal

The pull between human feeling and standards.

  5. Metal regulates Wood

The pull between rules and growth.

Regulation creates boundaries, direction and consequence

Scene 05

The right amount of regulation can support growth

  1. Wood and Metal

Metal helps Wood prune its direction.

  2. Fire and Water

    Water helps Fire cool impulse.

  3. Water and Earth

    Earth gives Water boundaries.

  4. Earth and Wood

    Wood initiates change in Earth.

  5. Metal and Fire

Fire gives Metal warmth and flexibility.

The question is not whether regulation exists, but whether it is appropriate, excessive or absent.

Regulation rangeGeng Metal and Yi Wood compare insufficient, useful and excessive restraint.

Useful limits shape growth; too little or too much creates strain

Scene 06

Similar energy: understanding and competition

People with similar attributes often understand each other because their rhythms and values are close. They may also compete for the same resources or amplify the same blind spot.

Similarity creates resonance; difference creates complementarity. Neither is automatically good or bad.

Generating cycle quick reference

  1. Wood → Fire · Ideas become expression

Wood supplies direction; Fire carries it outward

  2. Fire → Earth · Enthusiasm becomes results

Fire initiates; Earth makes it real

  3. Earth → Metal · Experience becomes standards

Earth builds the base; Metal organises quality

  4. Metal → Water · Data becomes understanding

Metal builds structure; Water discovers patterns

  5. Water → Wood · Understanding becomes growth

Water supplies support; Wood develops with it

Regulating cycle quick reference

  1. Wood → Earth · Change vs stability

    Keep developing, or stabilise first?

  2. Earth → Water · Boundaries vs freedom

    More rules, or more room?

  3. Water → Fire · Calm vs expression

Respond now, or process the feeling first?

  4. Fire → Metal · Human feeling vs standards

Care for the feeling, or hold the principle?

  5. Metal → Wood · Rules vs growth

Explanation framework

Life first. Technical evidence when you ask why.

Purpose before theoryBegin with the user’s real-life question, then explain how Aurato analyses it.
Layer one: one-line answerExplain the concept’s use clearly in everyday language.
Layer two: simple exampleDemonstrate it through work, relationships, money, rest or a decision.
Layer three: practical strategyShow what the user can observe, adjust or do next.
Layer four: technical evidenceOnly after selecting ‘Why?’ reveal the Day Master, Five Elements, Ten Gods, pillar positions and timing rules.
Recommended languageUse ‘may’, ‘tends to’, ‘is more likely to’ and ‘one useful strategy is’.
Avoid absolute verdictsDo not use fated, guaranteed, good destiny, bad destiny or perfect match.
Evidence sensitivityState clearly when birth time, calendar boundaries or missing data could affect the result.

Aurato uses possibility language, shows uncertainty and never turns one symbol into a fixed verdict.
